MSC SOCCER FAQ’S
• Age Group Determination: The age you are on July 31, 2009 is the age group you will be registered in. You must be 4 by this date to register. For example, if your child is 7 years old on July 31, 2009 you will register them for the U-8 (Under-8) age group.
• Birth Certificates: Any youth player that has never played for MSC must provide a copy of a birth certificate
• Uniforms: Included in new recreational player registration fees and consists of a jersey, shorts and socks. Division 1 and premier uniforms are not included in the registration fees and are paid separately.
• Practices: Rookies will have an optional practice; U-7 thru U-10 Rec will practice one weeknight per week, and U-10 Developmental and older will practice 2 weeknights per week.
• Season: Begins September 5 through November 8, 2009. Games are played on weekends.
• Recreational Evaluations: All new recreational players U-9 and above must register by August 8, 2009 and evaluate during the age group time assigned. See New Player evaluation article in the newsletter or Dates to Remember. Evaluations are only used for balancing teams and are not tryouts.
• Developmental Tryouts for U-10 players: U-10 Developmental tryouts are held in May prior to the fall season. This league is a 1 year commitment.
• Division 1 Tryouts: Division 1 tryouts are held in May and June prior to the fall season. This league is a 1 year commitment.
• Referees: U-5 thru U-8 are officiated by coaches. U-9 through U-12 rec are provided with one center referee only. All U-10 Developmental, Division 1, U-13/14 rec and Premier games are provided with one center referee and 2 assistant referees. Please remember, the state of Louisiana has a drastic shortage of referees which means your game may be short a referee at times. This is not intentional and every effort is being made to recruit new referees. Please see course information in the newsletter on becoming a referee.
• Affiliation: All youth age groups are affiliated thru the Louisiana Soccer Association in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and USYSA.
• Adult Leagues: The MACS and JFK leagues play short sided games and are not affiliated through Louisiana Soccer Association.
• Refunds: You will receive a full refund minus a small processing fee if you withdraw before the draft. Withdrawal after the draft but before the first game will be penalized $20 and there will be no refund after the games begin.
• Late fees: You will be charged a $10 late fee for registration after the registration deadline. Registration after the deadline will be placed on a waiting list.
• How to register: You are encouraged to register online at www.mscsoccer.org, you may also register by mail or at the office. There is also a night drop box located in the glass door at the office (forms and envelopes are made available). Faxed registration forms will not be accepted. Remember, all new youth players who have never played for MSC must provide a copy of a birth certificate before registration can be processed.
• When am I contacted with team information? Teams are formed at the draft on August 22, 2009. Each player should receive a call from his or her coach within a few days. Practices begin the week of August 24, 2009. Rookies should allow a few extra days after the draft for a call from their coach due to practice scheduling.
• Equipment: All players must provide and wear shin guards. Soccer cleats are optional but recommended, baseball cleats are not allowed. All players should bring a ball and water to games and practices. Ball Sizes: U5-U8 use a #3 ball, U9-U12 use a #4 ball, and U13 and above use a #5 ball.
• Location: The office is located at 790 Florida Street just 1 mile west from Pelican Park. If you travel from Mandeville to the park, you will pass directly in front of our office complex. We are in the Trace Place complex.
• Trophies: U-5 and U-6 Rookies receive participation trophies in the fall and the spring, U-7 through U-10 rec and the U-10 Developmental league receive participation trophies after the conclusion of the soccer year in the spring.
• Pictures: photos are taken for U-5 and U-6 Rookies in the fall and spring, U-7 and older are taken during the spring season only.
• T-shirts: U-5 through U-10 including the Developmental league will receive Crawfish Cup t-shirts at the conclusion of the soccer year in the spring. U-11 and U-12 recreational teams will receive NRSL t-shirts during the tournament in the spring. There are no t-shirts distributed in the fall season.
• NRSL Tournament: U-12 Recreational boys and girls teams participate in the Northshore Recreational Soccer League tournament to conclude the spring season. MSC pays the entry fees for these teams, which were budgeted into the registration fees.
• State Tournaments: All Division 1 and Premier teams, (except for U-10 Developmental) will participate in the LSA State Sanctioned tournament at the end of the spring season. MSC pays the entry fees for these tournaments, which were budgeted into the appropriate age groups registration fees.
