Mandeville Soccer Club U10 Academy Program

MISSION

The Mandeville Soccer Club U10 Academy (formally known as Developmental) Program offers 9 year olds that are born by the dates of August 1st, 2002 thru July 31st, 2003 the opportunity for advanced skill development in soccer through age appropriate curriculum.

MSC has designed a training curriculum that is innovative, challenging and FUN. The objective of the curriculum is to develop each of the four components of a player: Technical, Tactical, Psychological and Physical age appropriate manner.

The MSC U10 Academy program is a challenging and rewarding soccer experience for the players involved and serves as a bridge to Louisiana Competitive Soccer.

PHILOSOPHY

The MSC Academy Program will provide each player the opportunity to play soccer in a supportive and rewarding environment that emphasizes enjoyment and skill. It is an alternative to recreational team programs and offers boys and girls age 9 years old the opportunity for advanced development in soccer through a detailed progressive curriculum. The fundamental goals in the Academy Program are the following:

·        All teams are trained by appropriately licensed, Professional Club coaches to provide the players with the best possible foundation of skills and knowledge of the game.
·       Teaching the techniques of soccer utilizing a combination of “fun games” and “active, game-related repetition”.
·       Providing a healthy, competitive environment which builds ALL players’ self-esteem and confidence
·       Developmental goals and objectives through a 20 week curriculum structure that facilitates optimal player development.
·       Trying to instill in the players the notion that we should always try to win our games, however the true game result is HOW WELL YOU PLAY and how much you improve
·       Emphasis on quality and long-term benefits rather than short-term gain.
·       An educational atmosphere for players and parents concerning club values.

As the game of soccer continues to evolve, the area that requires improvement is our youngest recreational age groups. The Mandeville Soccer Club is committed to bringing more technical expertise into the U10 academy program, creating a curriculum of instruction specific to developmental needs of players at this age group level. The quality of development at this age group becomes a key contributor to player’s success at the competitive level. The U10 Academy Program has the focused objective of developing players of all skill levels and preparing those players for the game at the competitive level.

The U10 Academy Program is a bridge to competitive soccer. The future is bright, but it’s not guaranteed. As we all know, player development is a long journey. We must be patient in our approach, but we must also ensure that we start navigating the long journey in the right direction- The MSC U10 Developmental Program Model provides that direction.

The U10 Academy program is a unique and cutting edge program. True player development focuses on the improvement of the individual players, not the development of the team. Although team unity and cohesion is very important, the primary objective should be the growth of each player from the U10 age group level. Knowing the importance of individual player growth at these ages the Mandeville Soccer Club has implemented a unique pool training system.

CURRICULUM

Player development provides the opportunity for children to play, grow, and mature within an environment that is safe, developmentally appropriates, and growth enhancing. A developmentally appropriate environment means placing children in situations that are within their physical, intellectual, emotional and social reach. This doesn’t mean a less challenging environment, but rather one that accurately reflects the developmental framework within which a player can truly grow. To build this framework it is essential to assess current developmental needs; provide clear and concise coaching points specifically relevant to those needs; and follow a progressive model of instruction that facilitates an age appropriate, challenging, yet rewarding environment that is central to optimal player development.

Players should not only explore their potential as soccer players, they should continue to grow and mature as people through their involvement with soccer. The environment should facilitate and promote players to seek out challenges and assume some responsibility for their own development through free style of play in training.
